"SCULPTURE BY THE SEA"

THESE GUYS STOLE THE SHOW!
"SCULPTURE BY THE SEA" is an annual Sydney event , which we have missed during our 20 years in the glory of Urbs Beata: Brisbane. The event showcases various ïnstallations"along the cliff path between Bondi Beach and Tamarama Beach . Since we are now returned to Sin City , and Bondi?Tamarama is my wife's old home ground, and Maz and Nathan now live at Bondi Beach (no not on Bondi Beach but in the suburb of that name), we decided to make a day of it with the Sydney family group. Only Robyn's brother Tony was out of town. We had been to Vigil Mass on Saturday evening, in preparation for an early start.

The weather was brilliant, parking virtually impossible - but Jut's husband Paul managed it despite a long hike back to an unassuming excellent  Cafe "Sparrow"run by a Frenchman a little back from the Beach.Despite an unfortunate but minor accident to one of the lads all went well and we set off after a really good meal ,for the trek. It was decided Grandad needed a hat - I am not a "hat person"so I bought the cheapest straw creation that would fit and we proceeded, with me looking like a typical daffy old goat!(No pictures!)

Here, sandbags seem to convert a perfect site into a gun emplacement
At the very beginning of the track, we were dazzled by these brilliant zebras "grazing".
Installation art is not my serious idea of "art", but this is a fun occasion , and many of the entries are rather clever. We were re-inforced by free chilled water and exorbitant ice creams and ice blocks and the kinder delighted in the variety of sights - not only the exhibits, but the  sea, sailing boats, a bulk carrier heading up the coast and helicopters chopper-chopper-chopping for their TV station owners just off the cliffs.

A flower to beat them all.
At the end of the day, we older males hiked back to Paul's car, coming back to pick-up the ladies and kinder. But we had to leave the locals, Maz and Nathan, for want of seats - Paul's car already a champion at 7 seats! But true locals, Maz and Nathan retreated to the extraordinary Bondi Surf Life Saving Club high above the Beach and Pool where , in great comfort, they were able to watch a whale making its way along the coast, whilst they did  the right thing by their cold beers! We made our way back to Jut and Paul's , put the kinder into comfortable enjoyment and then relaxed with a splendid slice of Jut's cheesecake and a cup of tea, before Robyn and I headed for our nearby home.

Some days just work so well!
